Trust and standards

How Tutor works

Tutor builds and runs its own teaching network. This page describes what happens today, and says plainly which parts are not built yet.

What Tutor is

Tutor.org.in is an education platform that builds and operates its own network of tutors. It is not a noticeboard for other people’s advertisements. Nobody appears on this site by creating an account, paying for a listing, or filling in a form.

The journey starts with what you want to learn — your board, your class, your subject, and what you are working towards — and only then asks how you want to learn it. Where you are matters when the teaching happens in person, and not otherwise.

The journey, step by step

Four steps. The ones that are not built yet are marked as such, rather than described as though the finished product already existed.

  1. Step 1

Say what you want to learn

Board, class and subject, and what you are aiming at — an exam, a backlog to clear, a grade to lift.

  2. Step 2

Say how you want to learn

Online, in person, or a mix of both. In-person teaching is where your locality starts to matter.

  3. Step 3Not available yet

    Send an enquiry

An enquiry goes to one tutor, with your subject, your class and what you need. If you are under 18, the reply goes to your parent or guardian rather than to you.

Not available yet. No tutor profiles are published, so there is nobody to send an enquiry to.

  4. Step 4Not available yet

    Agree the arrangement

Timings, fees and where the teaching happens are agreed between you and the tutor.

Not available yet. It follows the step above.

A tutor appears here because a person decided they should

Publication is a decision somebody takes, records, and can be held to. It is not what happens automatically at the end of a signup form.

Five things must all be true at the moment a profile goes live:

  • The person has a live working relationship with us, and it is active.
  • Their profile is complete.
  • They have been approved.
  • A named person has authorised publication — a separate decision from the decision to work with them.
  • The market they teach in is open.

It works in the other direction too, and that is the half usually forgotten. If the authorisation is revoked, or the person stops being active with us, the profile comes down by itself. Nobody has to remember to take it down, because the database will not keep it up.
