If CMA Foundation does not work out

CMA Foundation is one way to reach a destination. Here are the others we have recorded — 2 routes that do not pass through it at any point.

Every one of them links to the body that runs it, so you can check it rather than take our word for it. None of them is easy, and none of them is guaranteed — they are simply open, and separate from the one that closed.

Work with the money side of an organisation

Accounts, audit, tax, costing, financial decisions. Every organisation that takes or spends money needs this done, which is why the work is not concentrated in one industry or one city.

  1. After Class 12Open entry, or admission on Class 10 or 12 marks

    A B.Com first, then enter Chartered Accountancy at the second stage

    1. Step 1. Take a B.Com, admitted on Class 12 marks or through CUET depending on the university.
    2. Step 2. A graduate meeting ICAI’s marks requirement may skip the Foundation stage and register directly at Intermediate.
    3. Step 3. Complete the practical training and the Final examination from there.

    Slower to the qualification and it keeps a degree in hand, which matters if you change your mind. The exemption from Foundation is the part most students do not know exists.

  2. After Class 12Selective, with more places than the best-known routes

    Chartered Accountancy, entered straight after Class 12

    1. Step 1. Register with ICAI and sit the CA Foundation examination after Class 12.
    2. Step 2. Pass the Intermediate stage, then do a period of supervised practical training in a firm.
    3. Step 3. Sit the Final examination. Many people take a degree alongside it, and it is not required.

    Entry is open to any stream, not only Commerce, and there is no cut-off to clear — you either pass the paper or sit it again. What it asks for instead is several years of examinations taken while working, which is a different kind of difficulty from a single entrance test.

One more thing worth saying plainly

A rank is a measurement of one paper on one morning against one cohort. It is a real constraint on which door opens next, and it is not a measurement of what you are capable of. The routes above exist because the education system has more doors than the ones people talk about — not as consolation for missing this one.
