The terms, before anything else
- How you are paid
- Hourly, for the hours you teach.
- Why there is no figure here
- No rate is published, because none has been fixed in advance. It is agreed with you at offer and is set by the subject, the level you would teach at, and how your assessment went — none of which is known before the assessment happens. You will have the figure in front of you before you are asked to commit to anything.
- Confidentiality

- How you are selected
- Through the process that already exists rather than a separate one for this role: a subject assessment set at the classes the role covers, which every applicant takes, then a review of your qualification documents by a person, not a form check. There is an interview where the role calls for one.

What is expected of you
Command of the language you teach well past the level of the paper, and of all four skills the specification assesses — listening, reading, speaking and writing — including a speaking test conducted and recorded to the awarding body’s own instructions rather than to a school’s habit. You would teach it across Class 9 and Class 10.
Working command of the published specifications you would teach against — Cambridge, covering IGCSE — and of how each one assesses this subject, which is where they differ from one another. For Cambridge that means working from the dated syllabus for the student’s own examination series rather than from "the Cambridge syllabus", knowing which tier the student is entered for — Core and Extended are different papers and the tier caps the grade available whatever is written on the day — and using the command words as that syllabus defines them, which is not how everyday English uses them. Where a subject offers coursework, that route is generally closed to a private candidate, so where the student sits the examination decides what they can be entered for.

- No promise about how quickly you will hear back. Nobody here has committed to a turnaround, and describing one is how you create one.
