Moving credit you have already earned
You can start this from where you are
A national mechanism for storing the credit a student earns and carrying it between institutions, together with regulations that allow a student to leave a degree at the end of a year with a certificate or diploma and return to it later. This is the closest thing India has to a written transfer rule, and most students have never been told it exists.
Why this is here
- Because you told us you are at finished a degree, and this can be started from there.
- Because you said you want to start somewhere and move later.
- How long
- As long as it takes — the body sets no fixed length and students finish at different speeds
- Where it leads
- This leads into a degree, with further study
- Cost
- Tuition is set by each institution and varies widely between them
- Where you study
- Studied in India
This route has a documented progression agreement. Meeting its conditions is still assessed by the institution.
Next step: Check that both institutions are registered on the credit store, then ask the one you want to move to what it will accept.
What has to be true first
- Credit already earned on a programme at an institution that participates in the scheme
Ask before you commit (3)
- Whether both institutions are registered on the national credit store
- How much of your credit the receiving institution will accept, which is its decision and not the regulator’s
- Whether the programme you want to join admits students partway through at all
Can run at the same time as
- A diploma after Class 10, then into the second year of a degree
- A degree through an open or distance university

Tutor does not teach towards moving credit you have already earned. It is on this page because it exists and you may want to know about it — not because we have anything to sell you for it.
