How the degree is shaped
Public universities charge no tuition fee for most undergraduate programmes; a per-semester administrative contribution still applies.
Many undergraduate degrees are taught in German. English-taught bachelor’s programmes exist but are a minority.
Entry is judged against the Hochschulzugangsberechtigung — the qualification considered equivalent to a German school-leaving certificate.

What Indian applicants are routinely not told
None of this is hidden — it is on the official sites. It is simply not what the material aimed at you leads with.
This is the one most often misunderstood. Indian Class 12 on its own is frequently not sufficient for direct entry, and a Studienkolleg foundation year or a completed first year of an Indian degree may be required. Check the official equivalence before planning around it.
"No tuition fee" is true and is not the same as "no cost" — living costs must be demonstrated in a blocked account before a visa is issued.
German language ability is decisive for the majority of undergraduate programmes, and starting it in Class 11 is not too early.
